A Young Executive Recovers from Fatigue and Hair Loss

Arne was a dynamic executive in his early forties, who joined a high paced computer software firm. He worked long hours six days a week, with irregular sleep and exercise. The intensity of his experience was satisfying until his firm experienced a financial slump. He started to feel pressure, as optimism gave way to negative messages, and the results were no longer proportionate with the output. His pace of work led to a traumatic break in a long-term personal relationship that he had taken for granted.

Gradually, Arne developed lethargy verging on depression, with chronic symptoms following influenza. He consulted his medical doctor and was diagnosed with post-viral fatigue. Paradoxically, Arne originally contacted me for another problem: he had always had a thick head of hair, like other men in his family, but now his hair was visibly thinning. This made him panic, and he sought my help to see if there were natural remedies to counteract this development.

It was obvious that Arne had been under chronic stress for some time, and exhibited signs of an ongoing alarm reaction in body and mind. Blood tests had been normal, and I felt that he needed stress management. I taught him relaxation exercises and guided imagery in music, including exercises and massage instructions for tight scalp and neck tissue. I used the following flower essences: Cotton for mental vitality, Lemon for cleansing (internal use and topical doses for the scalp), Nasturtium for his mental strain and arid intellectual life, Self-Heal to strengthen his overall healing capacity and Ylang Ylang essential oil as a general stress-reducing tonic. I encouraged him to spend at least 30-60 minutes in Nature each day, and to engage in breathing exercises.

Cotton Gossypium hirsutum

Cotton can be used to combat mental fatigue and restore mental clarity.

Nasturtium Tropaeolum majus

Nasturtium can relieve mental strain and boost intellectual vibrancy.

When Arne returned for the next consultation, he reported a difference, which he described as feeling “a growing plant within him.” He also reported feeling slight tinges of joy breaking through his lethargy and depression. At the next consultation, he reported excitedly, “I can feel new hair coming up in my bald spots!” I explained this was possible in his case, since he had a thick scalp that was not genetically prone to baldness. Prolonged stress with scalp constriction was prob-ably the main culprit in his hair loss.

Arne’s basic constitutional remedy was Vervain, a remedy for intense drive and enthusiasm. I included this core remedy with the other essences in his formula. He learned to curb his incessant outward drive and find an anchor of calm in situations that previously produced a stress spiral. Arne experienced a full recovery within half a year, prompted by his growing self-awareness and the recognition that he needed to find a balance between his inner motivation and the outer situation.

Comments on this case: I feel certain that the recovery of Arne’s head hair and the healing from chronic fatigue and depression would have been impossible without flower essences. Yet, flower essences alone did not bring about the healing. The essences act basically as “inner enzymes” to facilitate growth and healing processes. In children and animals, they can be given as a simple measure, while in adults with symptoms of complex origin, they often need to be a part of a many-faceted regime, tailor-made for the individual’s needs. One must direct the flower essences not only to the external symptoms, but also to an understanding of deeper issues involving the genesis, role and function of illness in the person’s life. My successful cases are often based on a combination of an inner willingness to change, lifestyle/situation and attitudinal shifts, mental/spiritual and physical exercises tailored to the individual, flower essences and other natural therapies, supplement-ed with specific physical exercises, music and awareness programs.

Treating Extreme Environmental Sensitivity in a Young Woman

Flower essences produced dramatic results with Carla, a young woman in her early thirties who was a rebel in a prominent family with bourgeois values. She revolted, joined an oppositional culture, and traveled around Europe, meeting like-minded persons. Along the way, she experimented with drugs and sexuality and neglected regular meals and sleep. When she returned to Norway, she married and soon became pregnant. However, the strain of her previous lifestyle had taken its toll, and she had a difficult pregnancy, bedridden with back and pelvic pain most of the time.

After the baby’s birth, she suffered from extreme fatigue, with over-sensitivity to electromagnetic fields. She was unable to work since nearly all jobs involved computers or related technology, and manual work was too demanding. Carla received a disability pension, and devoted most of her time to the basic tasks of life, including dressing and eating. Despite consultation with various therapists and medical doctors, antidepressants and megadoses of vitamins and minerals only worsened her condition. Body therapies were too intense for her sensitive condition and resulted in extreme reactions.

Gorse Ulex europaeus

Gorse was used to address Carla's feelings of hopelessness and lethargy.

Cerato Ceratostigma willmottianum

Cerato was selected to target Carla's deep lack of trust in her spiritual core.

When I first consulted with Carla, she felt drained of energy, with no hope of recovery. I gave her polarity exercises to balance and build up her vital field, and taught her how to make contact with large trees, such as oak and elm, for one-half hour each day. I gave her Gorse and Olive flower essences for her hopelessness and lethargy. I chose Cerato as her constitutional remedy—to heal her deep lack of trust in her own spiritual core and her feeling of being an “outsider” in her family system. I supplemented with Yarrow for hypersensitivity to electromagnetic fields, and Morning Glory as a tonic to heal the effects of her earlier excessive lifestyle. Carla followed my regime faithfully, and engaged in Nature meditations to draw on the reservoir of natural healing impulses in the surrounding countryside and sea coast.

When Carla returned in one month, I noticed that she seemed lighter and more erect. After the second month, she described a new strength rising, like “sap in spring.” Her motivation grew as she perceived results. She developed the strength to go out in Nature and seek healing. Her self-respect increased by engaging her complete attention in her healing program. Carla recovered, with the aid of flower essences as indispensable catalysts. As she herself says: “I could feel the flower drops working as a gradual change in my perception and my attitudes. In fact, it was as if the flower essences enabled me to change.”

Comments on the case: In my experience, changing chronic conditions has to do with changing a vicious cycle, one that is imprinted physiologically in neuro-hormonal circuits and receptor systems, and psychologically in lack of self-esteem and motivation.

An Artist Encounters Life with Flower Essences instead of Psychiatric Drugs

Lina is an artist in her late thirties who experienced serious mental imbalances during adolescence. At the time of her treatment from me, she had been through two major psychotic episodes, one after childbirth, the other after a meditation seminar. Though I do not generally work as a psychiatric doctor, I became aware of a hidden potential in Lina for understanding interior states of soul consciousness. She enrolled in my seminars, and responded well to flower essences, including Clematis (her constitutional remedy), Cherry Plum, Walnut, Wild Oat and Rock Rose. She could feel a distinct response to each dose of this combination—helping her to experience normalcy, drive and direction in life.

Lina’s experience of Clematis was especially vivid, addressing the inner split between mind and body, and drawing them closer together. She started expressing her own recognition of finer levels of consciousness. At first, her words were awkward, as she attempted to express inner experiences, but gradually she became more articulate, evidencing an inner authority that made people listen. She developed a gift for reaching people on the fringes of society and helping them return to life, just as she herself had been helped.

Clematis Clematis vitalba

Clematis addressed Lina's inner split between mind and body, effectively drawing them closer together.

Cherry Plum Prunus cerasifera

Cherry Plum was one of several essences that Lina used to gain normalcy, drive, and direction in life.

Lina now consults with difficult pupils in schools, participates in conferences on human consciousness, and dialogues with prominent scientists and philosophers. Lina has become a remarkable and original flower essence practitioner, well versed in several therapeutic systems, and researching Norwegian flower essences.

Comments on this case: This is one of my most striking cases. I have followed Lina for over a decade, and know for sure that she would have been a psychiatric patient on drugs, with a disability pension, had she not discovered the flower essences and the right self-development tools at a crucial cross-roads in her life. Intense psychiatric drugs and hospitalization would have prevented the gradual soul healing she has experienced over the last decade. My dream is that other sensitive souls, locked in a psychic dream world that avoids the challenging conditions of earth life, can be helped with flower essence therapy, guidance, and inner work.
